These charts don't have to be perfectly sized, they just have to fill the screen, or be able to move anywhere on the screen you want to check. The red one is usually all you need. If your glass tube (not LCD) screen isn't a nice, smooth, even red all over, you probably have a magnetic field, or degaussing problem. Try bringing the whole system up again from a power-down condition. If that doesn't do it, try moving your multi-media speakers further away from the monitor. Anything close with a magnet in it (like a speaker or electric motor) will screw up this test and your pictures.

When your friendly real estate agent sends you one of those magnetic calendars in January, put it out in the garage.

The earth's magnetic field can get into the act, too. If you turn a very large monitor at right angles with it running, the colors at the edges and corners will go wacky. Don't do that. Or if you have to, power it down and bring it up again. This usually activates the internal demagnitizer.
